On Tuesday, July 9th, the play Obraćanje naciji (Lotta di Classe) by Ascanio Celestini will be performed in the venue Between Churches, starting at 9PM. The play is directed by Bojan Ðorđević, dramatized by Mina Milošević, and “Atelje 212” (Belgrade) is responsible for the production of the play.
In the words of the playwright Mina Milošević, the play Obraćanje naciji (Lotta di Classe) is comprised of selected and adapted monologues from Ascanio Celestini’s play of the same name, which is a part of his collection Hodam u koloni (Walking in Line) . She asserts that the narration in the form of a monologue perfectly suits the theme relating to today’s society and that one doesn’t have to elaborate on this fact that much. She says that just one look at the phenomena of social networks, for example, is enough to illustrate how egotistical we’ve all become. In this play, however, the citizens of a Small Country address the nation directly, debating their prescribed social roles they will try to escape briefly. They will ,however, soon turn back to the same patterns-Milošević highlights.
Gorica Popović states for “Politika” that the theme of the play and the way in which the writer paints the picture of the global society of nowadays is fascinating. According to her what makes the play stand out is the fact that it can refer to any given nation in the world today. What is common to all of them ,Popović highlights, is the fact that people have lowered their standards in everything, and humanity is lost to a great degree. The way in which the writer addresses this is cynical, humorous and witty with various excesses, egotism, greed, hypocrisy and other volatile personality traits being portrayed painfully accurately-Popović says.
Along with the plays director Bojan Ðorđević and the playwright Mina Milošević, the authorial team involves: Siniša Ilić (scenographer), Maja Mirković (costume design), Maja Balubdžić (music for the play), Čarni Ðerić (stage movement).
