What a woman!<\/p>\n
The innkeeper Mirandolina is one of the most famous female characters in the history of theater. She is a symbol of celebrating those authentic strengths of a Woman- intelligence, wisdom, the Eros of life, creativity and the desire for independence and freedom. In this character, that long-existing force of a woman has found its thrilling and witty shelter. Carlo Goldoni wrote the comedy La Locandiera (The Mistress of The Inn)<\/em> <\/strong>in 1751, and it was first performed in Venice\u00a0 (1753). Mirandolina has since obtained its place on theatre stages, whilst simultaneously \u00a0competing with men in the play, amongst them especially the hater of woman Cavalier di Ripafratta. Mirandolina\u2019s goal was to fight for dignity, both hers and that of her own gender. She is an 18th<\/sup>-century feminist. In men\u2019s fantasies she is the Devil, Venus,\u00a0 Goddess, Harlot, Saint, Witch. She is a siren that enchants men, \u00a0robbing them of their reason. A dangerous woman, indeed. No matter if one imagines her as a mermaid or in any other \u00a0visual form, she is a symbol of a self-conscious, rebellious woman. Mirandolina stands as a pillar of long lasting heritage involving \u00a0experience and tactics of past time used by women to seduce men and beat them at that relentless battle of the sexes. What is to be Mirandolina\u2019s destiny in a world ruled by Mammon, money and greed? Are freedom and independence possible, or are they just grand illusions? What about love? What is that connection between love and money, Eros and Mammon? For Baudrillard, art is an act of seduction.
