On Friday, August 2nd<\/sup><\/strong> at 9PM<\/strong> at the \u201cPoets\u2019 Square\u201d<\/strong> this year\u2019s literary programme is to be continued. On this occasion, the monograph titled-Dreaming Awake: speaking of the theatre from this part of the world <\/em><\/strong>,dedicated to the life and work of the actress Varja \u00d0uki\u0107, will be presented. The speakers of the \u201cPoets\u2019 Square\u201d for the evening are going to be: Varja \u00d0uki\u0107, Aleksandar Milosavljevi\u0107 (theatre critic and researcher) as well as the edition\u2019s editor and professor Janko Ljumovi\u0107.<\/p>\n

The essential chapter of the book being presented is named \u201cDialogue\u201d. It is done in a form of creative interview that follows one\u2019s \u00a0train of thoughts. The text is a product of Varja \u00d0uki\u0107 and Aleksandar Milosavljevi\u0107\u2019s creativity. In the monograph, the texts by: Milena Dragi\u0107evi\u0107 \u0160e\u0161i\u0107, Blagota Erakovi\u0107, Boris Lije\u0161evi\u0107, Kruno Lokotar, Vesna \u010cu\u010di\u0107, Miroslav Mini\u0107 and Stela Mi\u0161kovi\u0107, are also incorporated. There are also extensive parts dealing with theatre critics and analysis of theatre plays, theatre research, filmography and the book is additionally illustrated with photographs spanning from 1982 to 2023. The various sources of the documentary material are: The Yugoslav Drama Theatre, The Montenegrin National Theatre, The Montenegrin Royal Theatre \u201cZetski dom\u201d (Cetinje), The \u201cTheatre City\u201d Budva, \u201cDah\u201d Theatre, Culture Centre Tivat, \u201cAtelje 212\u201d, \u201cBarski ljetopis\u201d and The National Library of Montenegro \u201c\u00d0ur\u0111e Crnojevi\u0107\u201d.<\/p>\n

When talking about the book Dreaming Awake<\/em><\/strong>, Janko Ljumovi\u0107 says that it is a testimony of memories, the joint memories of an author and the book\u2019s editor. He claims it is a sort of \u00a0journal of memories that follows Varja\u2019s work and life biography. In it, her attitudes towards her profession mixed with the social and any other component of her reality are presented. Therefore, without it being the aim when starting off, the book becomes a certain \u00a0lexicon where one can find a plethora of different personalities, artistic endeavors and important institutions. They all glide perfectly into a frame of certain definitions -asserts Ljumovi\u0107. Therefore ,Ljumovi\u0107 concludes, this book can be read as a cultural history as well as cultural geography of an area that is constantly undergoing a complex cultural transformation. From this book ,thus, it can be inferred \u00a0that it is an important act of culture to make the memories last. This is all ,of course, taking as a starting point the assumption that memory serves us to wonder and discern the meaning behind some things, and therefore gain knowledge, Ljumovi\u0107 highlighted.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Bo\u017eo Koprivica says that Varja\u2019s endeavor to write a book\u00a0 was successful in its entirety. He called it\u00a0 her revelation, psalm and palimpsest. According to him, it was only a matter of time when someone with as rich a stage biography as hers would write a book of this kind. Her book is like a gift to up-and-coming actors and definitely represents a moment in time. Varja \u00d0uki\u0107 recognized her gift early on and made tremendous efforts to develop her talents.<\/p>\n

Varja \u0110uki\u0107<\/p>\n

Varja \u00d0uki\u0107 was born on April, 18, 1962 in Zagreb (Croatia) . She enrolled at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, University of Belgrade in 1980 and that in the Class of the professor Ognjenka Mili\u0107evi\u0107. Her essays have been published \u00a0in journals\u00a0 and magazines in Serbia and Montenegro. Some of them are: the \u201cZbornik\u201d journal (the Faculty of Dramatic Arts- a branch of the Institute for the Theatre, Cinema, Radio and Television concerned with publishing\u00a0 the significant selected\u00a0 works from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Belgrade), the \u201cScena\u201d magazine (of which\u00a0 the main interest area is the theatrical art\u00a0 and the main office\u00a0 in Novi Sad), the\u00a0 \u201cArs\u201d Magazine (the main focus of the magazine being politics and culture, seated in Cetinje), the \u201cMontenegro Mobil Art\u201d Foundation (Podgorica) and the \u201cGuest\u201d magazine (Podgorica).<\/p>\n

She wrote\u00a0 the books\u00a0 Pozori\u0161ni geto <\/em><\/strong>and Devoj\u010dica u cve\u0107u<\/em><\/strong> that were published by the \u201cCDNK\u201d publishing house in 2000 and 2014 respectively.<\/p>\n

She is also an accomplished\u00a0 writer of\u00a0 radio plays such as\u00a0 Devoj\u010dica u cve\u0107u rezede (2019)<\/em><\/strong> and many others broadcasted by the \u201cRTS\u201d radio stations.<\/p>\n

The following theatre pieces bear her signature: Tebi iz ju\u010dera\u0161nje<\/em><\/strong> (according to the motifs of the literary works by\u00a0 Marina Tsvetaeva performed in: the \u201cCKZD\u201d Culture Centre, Belgrade (1998), the \u201cKIC\u201d Budo Tomovi\u0107 Culture Centre Podgorica (1999), the\u00a0 Montenegrin Royal Theater \u201cZetski dom\u201d Cetinje (Cetinje, Montenegro) and\u00a0 the \u201cPozori\u0161ni geto\u201d (Pula Book Fair)), Post scriptum<\/em><\/strong>– written in accordance with the motifs of\u00a0 Danilo Ki\u0161\u2019s works\u00a0\u00a0 and performed at the\u00a0 Montenegrin National Theatre (Podgorica, 2013), Malo o du\u0161i<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 inspired by\u00a0 the motifs of Wislawa Szymborska\u2019s verses (performed at: the\u00a0 Culture Centre Tivat, the Montenegrin Royal Theatre \u201cZetski dom\u201d (Cetinje) and Ratkovi\u0107\u2019s Poetry Nights (Bijelo Polje)- including the premiere at the\u00a0 Culture Centre Tivat in 2017).<\/p>\n
