On Monday, August 5th<\/sup><\/strong> at 9PM<\/strong>, in the venue Between Churches<\/strong>, the play Kumovi<\/em><\/strong>, written by Du\u0161an Kova\u010devi\u0107<\/strong> and directed by Bo\u017eidar \u00d0urovi\u0107<\/strong>, will be performed. The play is the production of the Performing Arts Theatre Nik\u0161i\u0107. It came to be as a way of marking the 140th<\/sup> anniversary from the performance of the first play in Nik\u0161i\u0107 theatre. It premiered on February, 16th<\/sup> this year, and that on the Day of the Establishment of the Performing Arts Theatre in Nik\u0161i\u0107.<\/p>\n

As Kova\u010devi\u0107 stated earlier about the play Kumovi<\/em><\/strong> \u201cIt is an unusual story of\u00a0 friendship between a man who was made redundant at work and a dog from a park nearby. The story enfolds in a usual way, as do all the stories that would later gain a completely different perspective. In its essence, it is a thriller. While writing it, I was mostly interested in the economical and political situation in the country. I didn\u2019t want ,however, for it to be told in the usual, political manner, that would retain its value only whilst that specific political situation is at play in a country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bo\u017eidar \u00d0urovi\u0107 stated after the premiere that he was especially interested in the kind of humor present in the play. It is the kind that is borderline between tragedy and comedy and in the play, those two moods constantly interrelate. He also added the following \u201cThis is a very sad story, tackling the tragic faiths of people in everyday life, as was fantastically explained by Kova\u010devi\u0107 in three words. We will strive to retain a dose of seriousness \u00a0that the piece has. I think that one of the values of the play lies in the fact that we haven\u2019t been trying to make the audience laugh but wanted to inspire within them a mixture of sad and happy emotions. I am convinced that humor is the only defense against any kind of government, because it is impossible to avoid. However, that one is funny happens once in a blue moon nowadays. There is ,suffice to say, a great scarcity of funny people today and I am terribly afraid of people that are too serious.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with the director Bo\u017eidar \u00d0urovi\u0107, the authorial team comprises: Vesna Popovi\u0107 (scenography), Marina Medenica and Margareta Marinkovi\u0107 (costume design), Jelena Simi\u0107 (stage movement), Bojan Bojani\u0107 (the choice of music for the play), Pavle Bogojevi\u0107 (accompanying the music with his voice).<\/p>\n

Cast: \u017dana Garda\u0161evi\u0107 Bulatovi\u0107, Had\u017ei Nenad Mari\u010di\u0107, Ivona \u010covi\u0107 Ja\u0107imovi\u0107, Nikola Vasiljevi\u0107 and Pavle Bogojevi\u0107.<\/p>\n

The same night at 9PM<\/strong>, one will have a chance to witness the premiere of the play Favoritism<\/em><\/strong> , at the amphitheater of the \u201cSveta Trojica\u201d Monastery (Stanjevi\u0107i)<\/strong>. The play is adapted and directed by Milan Ne\u0161kovi\u0107<\/strong>, in accordance with Branislav Nu\u0161i\u0107\u2019s play of the same name. The play is the co-production of the \u201cTheatre City\u201d Budva<\/strong> and the Sombor National Theatre<\/strong>. The play Favoritism<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 is the 82nd<\/sup> production of the \u201cTheatre City\u201d and it is important to highlight that this is the first time Nu\u0161i\u0107 is a part of the festival.<\/p>\n

In the director\u2019s preface Milan Ne\u0161kovi\u0107 stated the following: \u201cHumor is one of the most complex forms of communication amongst people. Therefore, it is not that common, nor easy to be funny whilst trying to do that on stage doubles the difficulty. Suffice to say, there are many types of humor, capable of producing different kinds of laughter. Nu\u0161i\u0107\u2019s humor, however, is universal. It digs deeper into the character of a nation that hasn\u2019t changed for almost two centuries-and why would it change when it\u2019s doing so well. Protection is one of Branislav Nu\u0161i\u0107\u2019s earliest works. He wrote it while he was in prison, the authoritative eyes of guards following everything he wrote. Therefore, he was made to tone down his criticism that cost him his freedom in the first place. That is how this heart-warming story, atypical of him, came to be. It is a relatable and tackles the topic of imperfect human character. All the characters are impossible not to like, despite their faults which are, however, not to be overlooked. One of the songs for the play goes-Is this a matter of character or is it a \u00a0mental illness?<\/em> Whatever the answer to this question is, only humor can seemingly save the world-both ours w and the one of Nu\u0161i\u0107\u2019s characters. And if we already share their character, let\u2019s share their faith too and wish them good luck. Understandably, the ending signifies finality, and thus can stand beside the word happiness only as an oxymoron. That\u2019s what we want in theatre and that\u2019s what we want from humor. Long live the theatre oxymorons and the human warm-heartedness and humor. As for you, Mr.Nu\u0161i\u0107, I thank you! Happy 160th<\/sup> birthday!\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with Milan Ne\u0161kovi\u0107<\/strong> ,who was responsible for the adaptation and direction, the authorial team includes: Biljana Grgur<\/strong> (costume design), Daniela Dimitrovska<\/strong> (scenographer), Duda Bur\u017eujka<\/strong> (music for the play), Sta\u0161a Ble\u010di\u0107<\/strong> (stage movement), Dr.Dijana Marojevi\u0107<\/strong> (stage speech coaching) and Ivan Nikolovski <\/strong>(assistant scenographer).<\/p>\n

Cast: Ninoslav \u00d0or\u0111evi\u0107, Marija Ma\u0161a Labudovi\u0107, Ivana V.Jovanovi\u0107, Sa\u0161a Torlakovi\u0107, Biljana Keskenovi\u0107, Ana Rudakijevi\u0107, Lazar Nikoli\u0107, Sr\u0111an Aleksi\u0107, Julija Petkovi\u0107, Milo\u0161 Lazi\u0107, Stevan Vukovi\u0107 and Sta\u0161a Ble\u010di\u0107.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The play protection will also be performed at this year\u2019s festival on the 6th<\/sup> of August.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Transportation will be provided for the play\u2019s audience from the bus stop in front of the \u201cTre Canne\u201d hotel at 7.30 PM<\/strong>. It must be highlighted that there are parking spots in the vicinity of the Monastery.<\/p>\n
