It is a jubilee that affirms and undeniable presence of our regions culture not just on the European cultural map, but the world one too. The importance of the civilizational breakthrough that came in the form of printing the first book written in Cyrillic alphabet as well as the Mediterranean and European context of this venture, in addition to the tasks left to the ensuing generations when it comes to preserving it, will be the subject of <strong>Aleksandar Jerkov&#8217;s<\/strong> address.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Aleksndar Jerkov is a literary theorist and historian of a primarily Serbian literature. He is a full professor at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade and is the head of the University Library \u201cSvetozar Markovic\u201d in Belgrade. Besides his accomplished academic career Jerkov has held the following positions: the editor of the \u201cStudent\u201d magazine, the editor-in-chief of the magazine \u201cVidik\u201d and the \u201cProsveta\u201d publishing house, in addition to him having been the editor of the \u201cPlato\u201d publishing company and the editor-in-chief of the \u201cMono and Manjana\u201d publishing house. Due to him being the indispensable part of the \u00a0\u201cMono and Manjana\u201d publishing house, he was the principal figure when it came to putting together the Grand \u201cLorus\u201d Encyclopedia that consisted of five volumes. He was also a member of the some other magazine redactions. Jerkov has been writing and publishing literary critics since 1977. It must be pointed out that he is a frequent participant at scientific gatherings and projects in the region and abroad.
