Jagoš Marković has directed a brand-new adaptation of a play that was instrumental in establishing a new genre, the Theatre of the Absurd, in the fifties. It was realized with the help of the Culture Centre Tivat’s production. Also, this new, state-of-the-art version of the original play has brought him the last prize of his career. The prize he was awarded with is the Plaque “Ivana Tomičić” for the special contribution to the Theatre in general specifically to the Festival of the Mediterranean Theatre-“Purgatorije”. The author decided to relocate the plot of the play from London to the Bay of Kotor and the setting of the play is an apartment of a distinguished family from Kotor. When speaking about the mood that prevails in the play, its original rigidness was replaced primarily by the Mediterranean light-heartedness but also with indolence characteristic of the people living in the Bay of Kotor on. The brave venture of translating Ionesco’s play into the dialect characteristic of Boka Bay and its adaptation so as to reflect the local way of life had a key role in the play’s success. It is important to highlight that behind this translation is the genius of Neven Staničić.
