Last night, the drama program of the 37thTheatre City festival continued with the dance and theater piece “Bjeguni”( Fugitives ), directed and choreographed by Staša Zurovac on the stage Between the Churches. The performance is a co-production of the Croatian Institute for Movement and Dance and the 40th Festival of Contemporary Dance, where it premiered in June this year, and was based on the novel of the same name by Nobel laureate Olga Tokarčuk. PI “Theatre City” has been a proud partner in this project since the very beginning, which was confirmed by Zurovac after the performance in Budva.
The novel itself was written as a constellation novel, its author Olga Tokarčuk said, and this is what Zurovac was guided by while preparing this play. For the scene between the Churches, Zurovac is of an opinion that it is an irreplaceable and fantastic ambient space.
In addition to Staša Zurovac, the director and choreographer, the author’s team consists of Aleksander Balanescu, who is in charge of the music, and Bjanka Adžić Ursulov, the costume and stage designer.
The play features: Yuko Harada, Nuria Jimenez Villaroja, Kasija Vrbanac, Lucia Cukor, Juliana Vargas Rodríguez and Nicola Prato.
The music is performed by the Balanescu Quartet, composed of: Alexander Balanescu, violin, Juri Kalnitz, violin, Christopher Picillides, viola and Nicholas Holland, cello.
