The play “No Woman’s Land”, a production by the Theatre City, developed in Budva through the Creative Europe program, was performed on May 8 at the Theatro Circo in the Portuguese city of Braga.
A large and warm-hearted audience welcomed the artistic and production team of the Theatre City, sending off the play “No Woman’s Land” and Montenegrin actresses Anđelija Rondović, Mirjana Spaić, Milica Kekić Martinović, Marija Liješević, and Milica Šćepanović with applause and ovations. Prior to the performance, a discussion with the authors was held, giving attendees an opportunity to learn about the creative process of the director and dramaturge in adapting the text of “Skočiđevojka”(The Jumping girl), and thereby discover a part of Montenegro’s cultural heritage.
The play “No Woman’s Land”, inspired by the short story “Skočiđevojka” (The Jumping girl) by Stefan M. Ljubiša, directed by Laurent Berger and written by Cátia Faísco, was presented as part of the Braga 2025 European Capital of Culture program at Theatro Circo – one of Portugal’s most important cultural landmarks and a long-standing meeting point of art, culture, and community since 1915. The play will also be performed in the French city of Montpellier in early June, then at the theatre City festival, and in October at the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica.
In addition to “No Woman’s Land”, from May 6 to 9 in Braga, the following plays were also presented: “Alive”, written by Aïcha Euzet and directed by Júlio Cerdeira; “A Beautiful Voice”, written by Nedžma Čizmo and directed by Montenegrin director Minja Novaković; and “Go Out and Fight”, written by Montenegrin playwright Stela Mišković and directed by Lajla Kaikčija. These performances were the result of the project “Sexual Theatre – A Feminist Reading of Classics”, co-funded by the Creative Europe program, in which the Public Institution Theatre City is a partner alongside the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina), the Faz Kultura center in Braga (Portugal), and Paul Valéry University in Montpellier (France).
