On Wednesday, the 5th of July at 9 pm, on “Avala” Hotel Plateau, the concert of “Big Band RTS and Uroš Perić” named Tribute to Ray Charles will take place as a part of musical program of the 37th Festival “Theatre City”.
The RTS Big Band is the only professional Serbian Jazz ensemble in the form of a big band. It was established in 1948 and it was quickly recognized as a group of performers with excellent interpretational abilities, with its prominent conductors, composers and arrangers that have been guiding it ever since. Some of them are: Mladen Bobi Guteša, Vojislav Bubiša Simić, Zvonimir Skerl, Duško Gojković, Stjepko Gut.
The ensemble has performed with some of the world’s greatest jazz artists. As a relevant representative of the Serbian jazz scene, the RTS Big Band has held concerts all around Serbia taking part in the most prominent domestic jazz festivals; it has performed in a number of prominent world festivals, in Tel Aviv, Montreux, Marseille, Thessaloniki, Munich, Stara Zagora, Ingolstadt and Neuburg, as well as at the concerts organized by UNICEF in Belgrade, Paris and Geneva. It has been awarded with „Sretenje Order of third Class“ for special services to the Republic of Serbia and its citizens in both public and cultural activities.
Uroš Perić, an outstanding artist from Slovenia, of Serbian descent, is known to the world as a top-class musician and interpreter of songs from the golden age of blues, jazz and soul. His versatility and unique talent have been enchanting listeners across Europe, Russia, America and Africa taking him to 26 countries with more than 1000 performances.
Uroš’s indescribable energy comprised of his singing, interpretation and unique charisma have been met with applauses of the worldwide audience.
In the course of his remarkable career he has collaborated with more than 200 prestigious music artists worldwide.
Sheila Ray Charles, daughter of famous Ray Charles, describes him as the true personification of Ray himself, the immortal legend of the musical world, who had the greatest influence on Uroš’s work. Uroš’s stage presence and charismatic voice transport his listeners back to a golden age of jazz and blues, and music connoisseurs even compare his piano performances to those of the great Gene Harris.
