As part of the project “Theatres for tOURism developmeNt in EuropE – TOURNEE”, which is funded through the European Union trilateral programme of cooperation between Italy – Albania – Montenegro, the final meeting took place in Budva on Monday, June 14, 2021. Since the Public Institution “Theatre City” is one of the partners on this project, together with the Municipality of Budva, the final meeting was attended by representatives of the Public Institution “Theatre City”, as well as representatives of the Tourism Organization of Budva and the Municipality of Budva.
This final meeting was aimed to recall the most important theatrical events so far, as well as festivals and numerous workshops which have been held as part of this project in Budva and in other partner countries.
The overall goal of the project “TOURNEE” is to establish close cooperation between crucial actors in theatre sector of the border area through the creation of innovative cultural products and better valorization of the culture of a tourist destination. During the implementation of this project, an innovative, strategic model of development and promoting role of theatrical institutions was established, as a primary tool for the cultural, tourism and economic growth.
As one of the goals of the project was to overcome seasonality, as well as to enable the exchange of artists and new works of art, a festival took place in Budva in the period from September 22 to September 25, 2019, whose programme included new works of art created by the “Theatre City”, as well as theatres from the Albanian cities of Tirana and Fier, and the Italian theatre from Barletta.
After Budva, festivals took place in Italy and Albania, with the aim of exchanging participants and presenting new plays to Italian and Albanian audiences.
Within the project, it was agreed to establish the “Adriatic Theatre Initiative”, with the aim of developing inter-institutional cooperation, including the affirmation of Mediterranean drama creation. In this regard, three agreements on cooperation were signed with: Croatian National Theatre “Ivan Pl. Zajc ” in Rijeka (Croatia), the Koper Theatre (Slovenia) and the Istrian National Theatre in Pula (Croatia).
After three years of implementation, the project has been successfully completed, and its sustainability will be reflected in possible cooperation between countries and theatres which were part of this trilateral programme.
