On Thursday, August 1st, beginning at 9PM, in the venue Between Churches, the play Realists is due to be performed. It is a play by Jure Karas, directed by Matko Raguž. The Exit Theare Zagreb stands behind the production of the play.
According to what Gee Vlahović said for Vijenac magazine: “The new play by the Exit Theatre done as a comedy in cabaret form, is only the continuation of the string of this theatre’s successes. This play is directed by Matko Raguž upon the incentive of Jure Karas- a writer, screenwriter and musician. It is hilariously funny with the top-notch acting and is at the same time a mixture of: natural creativity, harsh social criticism and wonderful, witty humor. The play can be seen as a series of infinitely funny narrative sketches. The Realists are a parody true of the time we live in, with elements of a comedy in a traditional sense of the word on one side whilst on the other lies the unrestrained, expressive politically incorrect kind of humor. This turns the stage into a playing field of a theater engagement that deals with some serious social criticism. (…) Being laced with sparkling dark humor, this spectacular comedy that addresses the tragic state in the world is really something new on Zagreb’s cultural map and is the prime example of a perfectly synced performance. With the topics tackled and an unique approach and performance, it proves that theatre is still very much a relevant medium and in touch with reality. The contemporary audience had undoubtedly found this interesting”.
The play has won many awards: the award for the best play at The Festival of Comedy and Laughter “Golden Tooth” Poreč (2022), the award for The Best Play overall given to the ensemble of the play and a separate one for The Best Actor of a Younger Generation handed out to Domagoj Ivanković at the “Actor’s Festival” Vinkovci, an award for the Leading Male Role that went to Domagoj Ivanković as well as for the prize for the Thriving Young Female Actress that was honored to Nika Ivančić at Fadil Hadžić’s “Days of Satire”, an award for The Collective Acting Performance and the ones for The Best Young Actress and the Promising New Actress that were reserved for Nika Ivančić and finally the Audience Award for The Best Play on the 14th International Acting Festival “Zaplet” Banja Luka, an award for The Best Female Cameo Role to Nika Ivančić on the 18th International Actors’ Festival Nikšić, the “Nagrada hrvatskog glumišta” award for Exceptional Achievements of Young Artists (28 or younger) in 2022 to Nika Ivančić and the Panel of Judge’s award for The Best Overall Directorial Achievement in a play for which Matko Raguž was recognized at the Omišalj-Čavle Theater Festival.
Along with Matko Raguž who was in charge of translation, adaptation and direction, the authorial team encompasses: Ksenija Zec (choreographer) and Mak Vejzović (the author of the video, trailer).
