The JU “Theatre City” is currently working on the realization of the project called “The Sexual Theatre-Feminist Readings of Classics”. This is a part of the”Creative Europe Programme” or to be specific “CREA-CULT-2023-COOP”. ”CREA-CULT-2023-COOP” supports this venture and many others of the same kind, with the special emphasis on the mutual artistic collaborations between different countries.
Along with the JU ”Theatre City”, the project partnership includes the following countries: the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica (the leading partner in this particular project), the Univesite “Paul-Vallery Montpellier” located in France and the “Teatro Circo de Braga” from Portugal.
The project realization activities began in January, 2024 and will last until December, 2025.
With this project special attention and time is devoted to women. That is to say, the role and place of women in the patriarchal society is what the authors focus on. During the work on this project the questions related to: feminist theories, gender equality issues and patriarchy will be tackled. It is important to highlight that these topics are characteristic of and are to this day an issue in the countries that are the participants in the realization of this important work of art. Those countries are once again: France, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
The overall aim of the project is for the new cultural contents, international co-productions and artist exchange to be realized through the feminist approach towards the interpretation of the classical literature. The work on the project in question entails the close cooperation of the European Union countries with the countries of the West Balkans. Within the authorial project team Montenegro is represented by the playwright Stela Mišković, who will cooperate closely with the Portuguese team, and the director Minja Novaković, who will work on the project in France. The play, which will be finalized in Montenegro, is going to be directed by the joined effort of Laurent Berger, who is the director of the play, from France and the playwright Catie Faisco from Portugal.
All the afore-mentioned strivings will result in the four authentic theatre works that will be shown to the public in the form of small but significant festival segments in all of the countries that had formed the partnership during the realization of the project.
